HOT Announces 2025 ArtReach Fellow: David Van Horn

HOT is proud to name David Van Horn (He/Him/His) as our 2025 ArtReach Fellow! ArtReach is HOT’s creative initiative that uses art as a tool for public health and community engagement. Through creative expression, we build trust, foster connection, and link LGBTQI2S+ individuals to vital programs in housing, health, economic empowerment, and harm reduction. Art has always been a vehicle for survival, resistance, and healing, particularly for marginalized communities. ArtReach transforms creative spaces into entry points for essential services, making public health resources more accessible and impactful.

David embodies this mission through his bicycle-run art program, Art Block, which delivers low-cost, accessible art opportunities to the East Side. As a Black bisexual art educator and sustainability advocate from Cleveland, David has spent over a decade integrating arts and culture with public health, safety, housing, and food justice. His work with community-based organizations such as Upcycle Parts Shop and Midtown Development corporation has fostered cross-cultural connections and environmental sustainability, using creativity as a tool for change.

HOT believes in the power of art to address social determinants of health. From our SummerFest Fashion Show to CALIENTE, we use artistic programming to create trusted spaces where people can access harm reduction tools, health screenings, and social services without barriers. Through ArtReach, HOT connects LGBTQI2S+ individuals, immigrants, BIPOC communities, and other marginalized groups to essential resources in ways that feel welcoming, relevant, and empowering.
David follows in the footsteps of Onya Nurve. As a 2025 ArtReach Fellow, David will receive a $500 grant to expand the impact of his community service, ensuring that more people have access to creative expression as a tool for wellness, resilience, and joy.
